16 July  2017 in Nairobi  the IAAF (now World Athletics) World U18 championship came to a close in  the capital of Kenya. It was clear that after hosting a successful championship, Kenya had proved its ability to host a major athletics competitions. The five day global show piece  saw a record attendance of 60,000 spectators at the championship in each of the final two days.

This was the highest number of spectators ever recorded in a World U18 athletics  championship.

The electric atmosphere at Kasarani set a perfect stage for the new track and field  stars to show what the have to offer to the sport in the years to come. After the commendable  World U18 Championship, Kenya expressed the interest to host the World U20 championship this year. After a successful bid,Kenya was announced as the host of the World U20 athletics championship that will be held in Nairobi at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

In July 7-12 this year,  the championship will be hosted in Kenya, a country that prides its self with a vibrant athletics history and a population that loves the track and field events.
